Each year EcoTeach "Student Expeditions to Costa Rica" sends groups of Elementary through High School Students to Estacion las Tortugas. The students work as volunteers at the reserve for 2-3 days. During the nightly turtle patrols they observe leatherback turtles nesting and transfer their eggs to protected areas.

EcoTeach Foundation is a philanthropic venture of Ralph and Margarita Carlson. Currently they both serve on the board of directors of the foundation along with Greg Enright of Seattle. Their work continues to support cultural and ecological programs in Costa Rica.
